Scots Language Centre Centre for the Scots Leid

Hieroglyphics resource for multilingual learners

hieroglyphics The Scots Language Centre worked with SCILT and the Scottish Refugee Council to provide young people with support in understanding key vocabulary from Anne Donovan’s short story, Hieroglyphics, from the collection Hieroglyphics and other stories.

Learners who speak Ukranian, Arabic or Pashto will be able to read translations of some of the Scots words in the story, which is a popular option for learners undertaking the National 5 English course. The resource also contains links to the online Scots dictionary at dsl.ac.uk.

The translations can be downloaded in MS Word format, below, or email us at education@scotslanguage.com for a PPT version.

Learners may also enjoy using our 'Hieroglyphics' interactive online resource
