Mak It New
For twenty-one years Lallans, the magazine of the Scots Language Society, has featured the best current writing in Scots, both in poetry and prose. Writers of all kinds have appeared in its pages:writers like J K Annand, Kate Armstrong, Robert Garioch, George Campbell Hay, Ellie McDonald, Robert McLellan, Edwin Morgan, William Neill and Christopher Rush. They have shown the continuing energy and vitality of Scots as a living language. There is no wallowing in nostalgia. Lallans, in its editorial policy, has always set high standards for Scots writing, and this collection illustrates this - it is fresh, forward-looking and brimming with ideas. The range, the humour and the precision of Scots are all on display. Yet there is nothing dry or academic about this book:above all it is a readable collection, full of stories and poems that amuse or entrance.
