Sangschaw 2018 entries invited

The Scots Language Society is now inviting entries for its 2018 Sangschaw competition. The annual Sangschaw is a chance for both established and budding writers in Scots to showcase their talents. Submitting an entry costs £5 or for three entries £12. All writing must be in Scots and must be original work that has not been accepted or published anywhere else. Prose entries must not exceed 3,000 words, poems and drama not more than 60 lines. Any translations into Scots must be accompanied by the text in the original language. There are three tassies (prize cups) to be won – the Hugh MacDiarid Tassie for Poetry, the Robert MacLellan Tassie for Prose, and the John MacPhail Law Tassie for Translation into Scots. The first prize will also receive £100, with £50 to the runners-up.

Please make out cheques or postal orders for entries to the ‘Scots Language Society’. Entries must be submitted by the deadline of 31 January 2018 and sent by post to Sangschaw, c/o 6 Dryden Place, Edinburgh EH9 1RP. No entries will be accepted by e-mail and please remember to include your name and address on a piece of paper separate from your entries.
