Eneados 500

As part of the ongoing 500 anniversary of Gavin Douglass Eneados, there will be a day-long celebration of the man, the Scots language, and Renaissance culture. Beginning at 11am, a flagstone to Douglas will be unveiled at Makars Court (outside the Writers Museum, off the Lawnmarket), Edinburgh, followed by a short reading from the Eneados. Between 2-5pm there will be a conference entitled Gavin Douglas, Makar and Translatour in Augustine United Church, 41 George IV Bridge, Edinburgh. Taking part will be J Derrick McClure, Dr Emily Wingfield, Dr Jenny Wormald, Rab Wilson and Dr Jamie Reid Baxter. Tickets are 5 at the door (concessions 3) which includes tea and biscuits. Finally, from 7.30-9pm, there will be a performance by Sang Scule, to be performed in St Giles Cathedral, High Street, Edinburgh, including Robert Carvers 16th century Mass for Six Voices and The Flowers of the Forest: an Elegy on Flodden Field by Sheena Phillips. Tickets at the door are 10 (concessions 5).
