Gordon Beange
13th November 2014
It is with great sadness that the Scots Language Centre has to announce the death of Gordon Beange.
Gordon had recently been ill and passed away on the morning of Tuesday 11 November. He was 80 years old.
An accountant by profession, Gordon had served as treasurer to the Scots Language Centre for over twenty years. He was a native of North East Scotland and a Scots speaker himself, and was involved in the SLC from the very beginning, always taking a keen interest in activities, helping to support the Centre as it developed.
SLC Director Michael Hance said "I and all the staff were very saddened by Gordons passing and will miss him very much. He contributed a great deal of expertise and time to the SLC over the years and we will always appreciate and remember that."
Dr Dauvit Horsbroch also commented, I first met Gordon when the SLC was just established and came to regard him as an important part of the fabric. It is very hard to imagine the Centre without him and it will take us a long time to recover.
Gordons expertise, his enthusiasm for the language, and his characteristic North East wit, will be greatly missed by staff and friends alike. The SLC would like to extend its condolences to Gordons family.
