Esther Inglis and James Melville

Dr Jamie Reid-Baxter, the editor of the poetry of Elizabeth Melville lady Culross, will be giving a talk entitled “Francophiles and Franco-Scots in Jacobean Scotland: an illustrated talk on the writings of Esther Inglis and James Melville.” Dr Reid-Baxter will be exploring the links, and new evidence, of the relationship between calligrapher and writer Esther Inglis (1571-1624) and the Reverend James Melville (1554-1614) who was one of the most prominent leaders of early Presbyterianism in Scotland and a writer in Scots.
The talk will be at 5.15pm on Thursday 16 May 2019, in room G.07, Meadows Lecture Theatre (entry to theatre via doorway 4 off the quadrangle), Old Medical School, Teviot Place, University of Edinburgh. The talk will be followed by a wine reception and discussion in the McMillan Room.
