Government Responds to the Ministerial Working Group
21st March 2011
On Friday last week, the Scottish Government published its response to the recommendations of the Ministerial Working Group on the Scots Language. The response comments about recommendations on general policy, education, broadcasting, literature and the arts, international contacts, public awareness, dialects and the census.
Scots activists are still studying the response, but the Government has accepted the working group's headline recommendation that it should develop a policy on Scots. However, the response is silent on the recommendation that such a policy should be enshrined in an act of the Parliament.
In addition, on literature and the arts, the Government agrees that establishing a post of Scots Screivar would help to promote the language and commits itself to consult on developing a process for appointing such a person.
You can read the whole response here as a web page or here in pdf.
