Glasgow Gruffalo
31st October 2016
Fans of Julia Donaldson’s The Gruffalo will no doubt be pleased to learn that a new version of the story has been produced in another regional form of Scots. We’ve had Orkney and Shetland versions, one in North-East Doric, and another in Dundonian, and now these are joined by Glaswegian. This version has been written by much-loved actress, campaigner and comedian Elaine C Smith who has captured the natural patter of the Glasgow tongue very well. It tells the tale of the ‘gallus wee moose’ that meets the scary Gruffalo while going for a ‘dauner’ through the woods. Smith describes the fearsome Gruffalo:
‘He’s goat big hackit fangs, an big mingin claws,
An bowfin big nashers in iz big jowly jaws.’
But, as fans will know, the gallus wee moose turns the tables!
The Glasgow Gruffalo is available as a illustrated paperback, price £6.99 (ISBN 978 1 785300 592), from Itchy Coo which is an imprint of Black and White Publishing. For more information please contact Laura Nicol on laura@blackandwhitepublishing.com or phone 0131 625 4500.
